The Holy Spirit – The Power of Jesus In Us
“I know of no power that is adequate to transform their lives except that which transformed my own life, namely, the power of the living Christ who ‘loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood.” – John Geddie
The Power of Jesus Christ to overcome sin, live righteously, and experience the stuff of Heaven is delivered to us in the Person of the Holy Spirit. He is the Spirit sent from Jesus to be the spiritual presence of Jesus in our lives. He transforms us into the image of Christ and empowers us to do the “greater works” Jesus said we would see.
We don’t find this transformation and empowerment through hard work and diligent searching in an effort to change ourselves to be more like Jesus. We are brought into living from Heaven’s reality and God’s design as we surrender ourselves to the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Bits and pieces of the nature of Jesus are activated in us and through us by the Holy Spirit.
Example, The fruits of the spirit:
Galatians 5:22 | NLT But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law.
“The sanctifying work of being squeezed into the Image of Christ is done through the work of the Holy Spirit.” – Dr. Ron Larson
2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
As this transformational work is done by the Holy Spirit I suddenly find myself with the UNATURAL ability to overcome my flesh and sin.
Romans 8:12-13 NLT
So, dear brothers and sisters, you have no obligation whatsoever to do what your sinful nature urges you to do. For if you keep on following it, you will perish. But if through the power of the Holy Spirit you turn from it and its evil deeds, you will live.
Human will power can not overcome sin nor will it get us the supernatural divine realities. The Law demonstrates to us, that what Satan tried to convince Eve of, is the greatest lie. The lie: We do not need God to make life work. The very truth is that it is impossible for us to please God by our Human will power. We will fail and fall short every time. Our righteousness comes through believing and receiving. Everything about what makes life work is being in close relationship with Jesus Christ. That is how we were made and designed.
The Holy Spirit is everything that makes the impossible task of living rightly before God possible because it is no longer us trying to live but Christ living in us through His Spirit.
As we experience the the transformational power of Jesus IN us, making us into His image, we also see that power begin to move THROUGH us to be a part of the transformational work in others. Thats what we will see in Part 2 – The Power of Christ Through Us.
